SUMMARY:Neurodiversity Pride Day Viering in het Utrecht Science Park
DESCRIPTION:Viering Neurodiversity Pride Day \nNeurodiversity Pride Day in het Utrecht Science Park 🎉 \n\n\nMaandag 16 juni 2025 is het Neurodiversity Pride Day. \n\n\n\n

As the CEO and co-founder of Diversity and Ability (D&A) and Calling All Minds\, Atif has worked to dismantle barriers in education and employment\, ensuring that people have the tools and support they need to thrive. \nIntroduction to the keynote: \n \nHis work is rooted in a commitment to intersectional inclusion\, recognizing that factors like race\, class\, and culture shape people’s experiences and opportunities. In a recent article\, Atif emphasized that “building equity around race\, class\, and culture allows all of us to bring our whole selves to work.” This perspective aligns with his broader vision of creating spaces where everyone’s identities are respected and valued\, and where systemic inequities are acknowledged and addressed. \nAtif’s background includes experience in innovation\, human rights\, and entrepreneurship\, and his work has been recognized by organizations like the Disability Power 100. In his keynote\, he will reflect on the ongoing journey toward creating inclusive and equitable workplaces and communities. He reminds us that inclusion is not just about compliance\, but about fostering cultures where people feel genuinely seen and supported. \nWe appreciate Atif’s dedication to fostering inclusive practices and his willingness to engage with complex issues of identity and belonging. His keynote embodies the spirit of Neurodiversity Pride Day: creating spaces where neurodivergent voices can thrive alongside the broader diversity of human experience. \nPlease join us in welcoming Atif Choudhury\, whose work highlights the importance of building equity in every part of our society—so that everyone can bring their whole selves to work\, and to life. \n  \n\nThe talk “The Debt We Owe To Difference”\, will premiere\, on this page on June 16th.

SUMMARY:Main International Keynote - Dr Ludmila Praslova
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the ND Pride team invites two daring pioneers in the Neurodiversity Movement\, to share their message with the neurodivergent community. For the 2025 edition\, we have invited activist Bridgette Hamstead and author Dr Ludmila Praslova to do these ‘main’ keynotes. \n\nWe are delighted to welcome Dr. Ludmila Praslova as one of the two main keynote speakers for Neurodiversity Pride Day 2025\, a global event celebrating neurodivergent identity and community in over 50 countries worldwide. \n \nDr. Praslova is a renowned expert on neurodiversity and inclusion\, bringing decades of experience in organizational psychology\, leadership development\, and workplace equity. As a professor of graduate organizational psychology at Vanguard University\, she has dedicated her career to transforming workplaces to be more inclusive of neurodivergent talent. \nShe is the author of the groundbreaking book The Canary Code: A Guide to Neurodiversity\, Dignity\, and Intersectional Belonging at Work\, which offers a comprehensive roadmap for creating environments where neurodivergent individuals can thrive. Drawing on her own lived experience as a late-identified autistic individual\, Dr. Praslova weaves together research\, lived wisdom\, and practical strategies to advance authentic inclusion in organizations and communities. \nHer keynote address at Neurodiversity Pride Day will bring her passion for systemic change\, intersectionality\, and dignity to center stage. She reminds us that “neurodiversity is not just an individual difference—it’s a social justice issue.” Her work challenges organizations to move beyond tokenistic diversity efforts and instead foster genuine belonging\, where every voice is valued and celebrated. \nThrough her consulting\, teaching\, and advocacy\, Dr. Praslova has inspired countless individuals and organizations to embrace neurodiversity as a strength. Her keynote will be a powerful call to action\, inviting us all to envision workplaces and communities that honor the full humanity and brilliance of neurodivergent people. \n\nThe talk will premiere on June 16th 0800 CEST.

SUMMARY:Main International Keynote - Bridgette Hamstead - Unapologetically Neurodivergent: Writing My Way Home
\n \n\nIntroducing Keynote Speaker: Bridgette Hamstead \nWe are deeply honored to welcome Bridgette Hamstead as one of the two official keynote speakers for Neurodiversity Pride Day 2025\, a global celebration spanning over 50 countries and organized by the Neurodiversity Foundation. \nBridgette is an accomplished writer\, speaker\, and community builder whose work centers on the intersections of neurodivergence\, trauma\, and identity. Through her consulting practice\, she empowers individuals and organizations to move beyond performative inclusion and build truly affirming spaces. Her background in higher education\, policy research\, and mental health advocacy shines through in her dedication to equity and systemic change. \nBridgette’s keynote\, “Unapologetically Neurodivergent: Writing My Way Home\,” is a deeply personal reflection on discovering her neurodivergent identity later in life. It explores the journey of shedding the pressures to perform for others and instead embracing an authentic sense of self. Bridgette’s words speak to language\, grief\, reclamation\, and the quiet\, daily work of building a life that fits. \nIn her own words\, this keynote is “a story… what I needed to hear years ago… and what I hope might reach someone else who is just now starting to put the pieces together.” It is a celebration of the brilliance\, joy\, and resilience that exist within the neurodivergent community—a reminder that pride is not just a performance\, but a grounded and deeply personal reclamation of self. \nWe are profoundly grateful to Bridgette for sharing her wisdom\, vulnerability\, and strength with us\, and for contributing her voice to this global moment of visibility and empowerment. \n\nOn this page\, we will share the link to the talk\, and add the embedded version. The talk will premiere on June 16th\, in the first minutes of Neurodiversity Pride Day. \n \nTo follow my Bridgette’s work and learn about her upcoming book\, The Trouble with Being Good: How Late-Diagnosed AuDHD Women Break the Rules to Save Themselves\, find her on LinkedIn – www.linkedin.com/in/bridgette-hamstead or check out Fish in a Tree’s website at www.fishinatreenola.org.

SUMMARY:Neurodiversity Pride Day The Hague @ The Social Hub
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a community gathering in celebration of Neurodiversity Pride Day 2025! This event is open to neurodivergent individuals (diagnosed or not) and their friends\, family\, and allies. We aim to create a welcoming and supportive space to connect\, learn\, and share experiences.\n📅 Date: Saturday 14 June 2025\n🕚 Time: 11:00 – 13:00\n📍 Location: The Social Hub\, The Hague\n🎟️ Tickets: €9.06 per person (includes a broodje and drink for lunch and Eventbrite booking fee)\n🔗 Booking: via The Social Hub/Eventbrite\n👥 Capacity: Maximum of 50 participants\n📧 Contact: Neurodiversity Foundation Education Ambassador: Renée Tentori – renee@zestee.com\n✨ What to Expect\n🌟 Stories of Celebration\nWe’ll begin with a “Stories of Celebration” session – a chance for anyone who feels comfortable to briefly share a personal story\, reflection\, or achievement related to neurodiversity. These can be big or small – from proud moments and growth experiences to insights or gratitude. This is an informal\, supportive moment to honour and uplift our diverse voices and experiences.\n🥪 Community Lunch\nWe’ll enjoy a relaxed and friendly lunch together – a broodje and drink are included in your ticket price. This is a great chance to meet others\, continue conversations\, and share in the spirit of community.\n🎤 Presentation & Mini Workshop\nThis year we are excited to welcome a guest speaker from the other side of the world to share her insights.\nDr Nicolina Newcombe is a late-diagnosed autistic person from Aotearoa New Zealand. She holds a PhD in Education\, in which she conducted inclusive research with people with intellectual disability\, and a Master’s in Māori and Pacific Development. She works as an Inclusion Advisor for IHC\, an organisation that advocates for the rights of autistic people and people with intellectual disability.\nDr Nicolina Newcombe\nInclusion Advisor\, IHC New Zealand Incorporated\nTalk title: “The impact of takiwātanga on autistic pride in Aotearoa New Zealand”\nThis talk will share insights from her research into takiwātanga – a te reo Māori word meaning “in his/her/their own time and space” – and how this concept shapes autistic pride in Aotearoa New Zealand. Rooted in Māori worldviews that embrace difference as a natural part of whakapapa (genealogy)\, takiwātanga presents a powerful counter-narrative to deficit-based views of autism. Nicolina will offer her perspective as a Pākehā (non-Māori) navigating bicultural inclusion.\n🧠 For more information about Neurodiversity Pride Day worldwide:\n🌐 neurodiversityprideday.com\n💛 Accessibility & Inclusion: We want to make this event as inclusive and accessible as possible.\n👶 Families welcome – If you need to bring your baby or children\, they are welcome. SUMMARY:Neurodiversity Research Conference - Academic Presentations about Neurodiversity Research
DESCRIPTION:On the 11th of June 2025\, researchers who are doing research about neurodiversity will present and share about their works and their findings.\n\nThese researchers will present their research:\n\n  \n\n \n\nAlvin van Asselt: Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD) Research\n\nWe are pleased to announce an upcoming Academic Presentation by Alvin van Asselt\, an autistic PhD student whose research sheds light on Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD)—a term increasingly used by neurodivergent communities to describe intense emotional responses to rejection\, criticism\, or exclusion. \nAbstract:\nRejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. Being rejected\, excluded\, or criticised can be very distressing. For some individuals\, these experiences may be even more intense than for others. On social media\, neurodivergent individuals use the term Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD) to describe that their responses to these events can be extreme. Alvin van Asselt\, an autistic PhD student researching RSD in autism\, will give a talk on what is currently known about RSD. This includes findings from his recent study\, in which he interviewed autistic adults about their experiences with RSD. \nAlvin van Asselt: https://www.linkedin.com/in/alvinvanasselt/ \n\n \n\nMelis Yontan: Neurodiversity Research\n\nWe are pleased to announce an upcoming Academic Presentation by Melis Yontan\, who will share her recent research on neurodiversity in higher education\, with a focus on ADHD and maladaptive perfectionism among college students. \nAbstract: \nAttention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is becoming increasingly prevalent among college students and is often linked to poorer academic outcomes. Research suggests perfectionism may play a role in this relationship. Students with ADHD tend to be maladaptive perfectionists\, further impacting their academic performance. Since students with ADHD frequently face challenges in organization and problem-solving\, the presence of maladaptive perfectionism may make completing tasks even more difficult. Honors students are also found to display maladaptive perfectionism\, likely due to the high-pressure academic environment they are in. However\, interdisciplinary studies offer an educational structure intentionally designed to accommodate diverse learning styles\, potentially making this environment more supportive for neurodiverse students such as those with ADHD. Bringing these elements together\, this study employed a quantitative\, cross-sectional\, and correlational design to explore the relationship between ADHD symptoms and maladaptive perfectionism in an interdisciplinary honors college setting. A total of 115 students at Amsterdam University College completed an anonymous online questionnaire consisting of the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale and the Almost Perfect Scale-Revised. Findings aligned with existing literature\, demonstrating that students with higher ADHD symptom severity had higher maladaptive perfectionism scores compared to their peers. Additionally\, ADHD symptoms were associated with lower scores on the Order subscale\, indicating difficulties with organization. These findings highlight the importance of educational environments that account for the complex relationship between ADHD and perfectionism that better support neurodiverse students in competitive academic settings. \nMelis Yontan: https://www.linkedin.com/in/melis-yontan-990bb3306/?originalSubdomain=nl \n\n\n  \n\n– \n\nYijuan Li: “Embrace ADHD\, 100 Ways We Shine” with Yijuan Li and Guest Speaker Marc Goblot\n\nWe are excited to welcome Yijuan Li for an Academic Presentation on her early-stage exploratory research project titled “Embrace ADHD\, 100 Ways We Shine.” Joining her as a guest speaker is Marc Goblot\, who has contributed to the project as both a community advisor and an interviewee. \nAbstract:\nIn this presentation\, Yijuan will introduce an early-stage exploratory research project\, “Embrace ADHD\, 100 Ways We Shine”. It will include the framework and how it started\, as well as practical details on conducting the interviews. The guest speaker\, Marc Goblot\, will present his experience as the community advisor and one of the interviewees\, to give the audience a better idea. Welcome to join us! \nThis presentation is a valuable opportunity for those interested in neurodiversity\, qualitative research methods\, and inclusive community-based approaches. We warmly invite students\, faculty\, and the broader academic community to join this engaging and insightful session. \nYijuan Li: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jujusprofile/\nMarc Goblot: https://www.linkedin.com/in/marcgoblot/ \n\n\n  \n\n \n\nDaniel Koblischke\n\nWe are happy to introduce Daniel Koblischke\, a visionairy thinker in the Neurodiversity space\, talking about new and philosophical concepts\, relating to “electronic drugs”\, “neuro:rights” and the “political implications of neuro:ethics in the context of soft power”. \n\n   \n\n\nValentina Landin and Jasmine Shah: Neurodiversity Research \n\nWe are delighted to invite you to an Academic Presentation by Valentina Landin and Jasmine Shah\, who will share their collaborative research on redefining productivity through neuro-inclusive and nature-based methodologies. \nAbstract:\nThis research critiques dominant productivity models by proposing neuro-inclusive alternatives designed for the needs of neurodiverse individuals. Challenging capitalist ideals of speed and efficiency\, it reclaims attention\, curiosity\, and reflective practice through nature-based methodologies. Employing an ethnographic and participatory design framework\, the research explores how methods such as walking\, observation\, photography\, and reflective dialogue can build embodied\, inclusive ways of working. The central intervention\, Walk & Talk\, is an immersive practice embedded in slowness\, presence\, and connection. Discussion and findings reveal how it reframes productivity as a relational\, sensory\, and reflective experience\, offering a compassionate alternative that centres neurodiverse rhythms and promotes well-being through community and nature. \n\n \n\n\nTahani Saleh: Neurodiversity Research\nWe are pleased to announce an upcoming Academic Presentation by Tahani Saleh\, who will share her innovative and socially engaged research on the experiences of adults with ADHD in the Dutch healthcare system. Her project challenges conventional\, deficit-based views of ADHD and instead centers the lived experiences\, resilience\, and cognitive strengths of neurodivergent individuals.\n\nAbstract:\nAdults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often face challenges when using healthcare systems not designed with neurodivergent needs in mind. In the Netherlands\, people with ADHD often report long delays in diagnosis\, poor communication during consultations\, and distressing sensory environments in waiting rooms. These difficulties are frequently caused by systemic misalignments between the healthcare setting and the cognitive and sensory features associated with ADHD\, rather than just the condition itself. The present study aims to explore the healthcare journey of adults with ADHD in the Netherlands\, focusing on the barriers they face and the strategies or interventions that support them. Using Photovoice\, a method of participatory action research that empowers participants to capture their lived experiences through photography and narrative\, the study will invite 5–6 adults with either formal or self-diagnosed ADHD to reflect on their experiences across three phases of care: help-seeking\, waiting\, and consultation.Grounded in person-environment fit theory and the neurodiversity paradigm\, this study aims to challenge deficit perspectives\, presenting not only the challenges but also the distinctive cognitive strengths that many people with ADHD deploy to manage health. Results will be interpreted in collaboration with participants and used to develop specific recommendations at each level to improve the accessibility\, responsiveness\, and inclusiveness of ADHD care within the Dutch healthcare system.\nTahani Saleh: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tahani-saleh/\n\n  \n\n \n\nSteven van der Minne\nWe are pleased to welcome Steven van der Minne as the next speaker in our Academic Presentations series\, where he will share his research and applied strategies for creating psychological safety as a foundation for true inclusion—particularly neuro-inclusion—in organizational settings. \nAbstract:  \nFor fully developing personal skills that make people thrive in groups\, inclusion is a key condition. A key element to inclusion\, also neuro-inclusion\, is psychological safety.  \nAdopting\, adapting\, and improving psychological safety is easier said than done. In the absence of psychological safety in may organizations\, people do not feel safe\, will not open up and show their vulnerable side\, so the situation is likely to remain as it is\, may be inclusive in name\, not in reality.  \nThis is why I developed a few models to increase psychological safety in five steps\, guidelines for organizations who start from the scratch\, additional information representing the most common neurodivergent types and a few steps for guidance\, and finally for organizations that really wish to monitor the progress\, tips to include psychological safety\, also within the neurodiversity into Key Performance Indicators.  \nI will not present the entire research\, but I will show some examples for models and explain my motivation to dive into the neurodiverse dimension of psychological safety. \nSteven van der Minne: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stevenvanderminne/edit/forms/next-action/after-connect-update-profile/ \n\n\nMay Oostrom-Kwok: Neurodiversity Research with May Oostrom-Kwok\nWe are excited to announce an upcoming Academic Presentation by May Oostrom-Kwok\, whose research explores how internal communication can empower line managers to build more neuroinclusive workplaces. As interest in neurodiversity at work grows\, especially with companies like SAP and Microsoft reporting clear gains from inclusive practices\, this topic is both timely and essential. \nAbstract:\nNeurodiversity at work is gaining more attention. With organisations like SAP and Microsoft reporting gains in productivity\, quality\, and innovation through neuroinclusive practices\, companies are beginning to recognise the value of a neurodiverse workforce. \nGiven the critical role that line managers play in supporting neurodivergent individuals and the importance of communication in enabling inclusive organisations\, this study aimed to explore how internal communication can support line managers in fostering a neuroinclusive workplace. \nThis qualitative study surveyed the experiences of people managers in a global\, service-oriented company in the environmental services sector. Interviews were conducted with eight line managers who lead neurodiverse teams in the Netherlands and the UK. Findings revealed that while line managers employed some inclusive practices\, they lacked formal training and guidance. Many felt unsupported at the corporate level and called for more structural investment\, training\, awareness\, and open dialogue about neurodiversity. \nThe study highlights the importance of a dynamic approach to foster neuroinclusion\, which includes awareness-building\, dialogue facilitation\, leadership and structural support\, and education. Specifically\, organisation-wide communication and leadership engagement are essential to create a truly neuroinclusive culture. \nMay Oostrom-Kwok: https://www.linkedin.com/in/may-kwok/ \n\n  \n\n \n\nKirsten van de Ham: Neurodiversity Research \nWe are delighted to invite you to an Academic Presentation by Kirsten van der Ham\, who will present her research on how entrepreneurs with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) navigate the world of entrepreneurship by leveraging their unique strengths and adapting to challenges.Abstract:\nThis presentation explores how entrepreneurs with Autism Spectrum Condition leverage their strengths and manage challenges within entrepreneurship. Based on qualitative research involving ten Dutch entrepreneurs\, it highlights themes such as systematic thinking\, person-environment fit\, and strategies for tailoring work environments to individual needs. The study contributes to a strengths-based perspective on neurodiversity in work and entrepreneurship.\n\nKirsten van der Ham: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kirsten-van-der-ham/\n\n  \n\n  \n \n\n\nMichael Ehinmow\n\n  \n\n\n\n \nAnna Pyszkowska\nAnna will share presentation: Inertia – theoretical framework exploration and scale development \nInertia is defined as difficulty in starting or stopping an activity\, even if it seems simple\, such as making breakfast or washing dishes. It is often associated with problems with executive functions\, e.g.\, focus\, planning\, or decision-making. Previous research on inertia was qualitative or theoretical; no quantitative studies due to lack of a psychometric measurement aimed at this phenomenon. The current presentation focuses on the previous studies on inertia among autistic individuals and introduces a scale development of the Inertia Scale\, based on results from both autistic\, ADHD\, and AuDHDers (N = 309) from Poland. The preliminary outcome showed that the Inertia Scale exhibits acceptable model fit (RMSEA = 0.05) and consists of four factors that underline the inertia framework: 1. Difficulty starting the activiy\, 2. Powerlessness\, 3. Physical blockage\, and 4. Inertia breakers. Further qualitative results and research and clinical plans are also discussed. \n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nAntoinette Luijkx\nWe are pleased to welcome Antoinette Luijkx as our speaker for today’s event. Antoinette brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the topic of sensory processing sensitivity (SPS)\, also known as highly sensitive person (HSP) trait. \nAbstract: \nIn this presentation\, Antoinette Luijkx explains the characteristics of sensory processing sensitivity\, SPS (also known as HSP)\, differences in the brain compared to non-SPS\, the burdens and strengths. We will discuss an overview of the research of the past 25 years on SPS and finally focus on the gaps yet to be researched. \nAntoinette Luijkx: https://www.linkedin.com/in/antoinetteluijkx/ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nLauren Wilkinson\n\nWe are honored to welcome Lauren Wilkinson as our speaker\, offering groundbreaking insights into the intersection of neurodiversity and fibromyalgia. \nAbstract: \nBackground: Neurodivergent conditions (e.g. autism and ADHD) share similarities with fibromyalgia including cognitive challenges (e.g. brain fog and executive dysfunction)\, sensory processing differences and comorbid mental and physical health conditions. \nNeurodivergent individuals often struggle to explain their emotions and physical experiences; therefore\, we predict this could extend to the explanation of their chronic pain\, however this is currently ambiguous. Neurodiversity and fibromyalgia are managed by separate healthcare disciplines\, so this relationship can either go undetected\, or clinicians can lack the necessary understanding\, skill or the capacity to deal with this appropriately which can lead to negatively impacting an individual’s quality of life. \nAims: This study aims to investigate the personal lived experiences of neurodivergent individuals with fibromyalgia and the interconnectedness of the conditions. \nKeywords: Fibromyalgia\, Neurodiversity\, Autism\, ADHD\, Lived Experiences \nLauren Wilkinson: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lauren-wilkinson-722b62202/edit/forms/next-action/after-connect-update-profile/ \n\n\n
