About Neurodiversity Pride

We exist because neurodivergent people deserve to see themselves celebrated, not just accommodated. Because the world changes for the better when we honor diverse minds. And because, sometimes, the best way to start a conversation is by throwing a party.

Neurodiversity Pride Day is not just a date. It’s a declaration.

We are not broken.
We are not less.
We are neurodivergent and proud.

Neurodiversity Pride

Our Story

Neurodiversity Pride Day began with a simple yet powerful belief: that being neurodivergent is not a flaw to fix, but a strength to celebrate. In 2018, this belief took shape in the Netherlands, where the Neurodiversity Foundation launched the very first Pride Day. What started as a local event quickly sparked something much bigger—a global movement powered by the voices and creativity of neurodivergent people from all walks of life.

Back then, the idea of celebrating neurodivergence in public spaces was almost radical. There were awareness days, yes—but they often centered on deficits, diagnoses, or challenges. Neurodiversity Pride Day turned that on its head. Instead of focusing on what neurodivergent people struggle with, we celebrate what we bring: innovation, authenticity, deep focus, emotional insight, pattern-recognition, resilience, and a thousand other traits that don’t always fit into neurotypical boxes.

And the world responded.

The Journey So Far

In 2019, we kept going and 4 in person events were created. More communities found language and joy in reclaiming the idea that “different” doesn’t mean “less than.”

By 2020, the pandemic might’ve shut down physical events—but it couldn’t shut us up. We cancelled 80% of our in person events and pivoted to online spaces and reached 1500 participants with activities in 3 countries. The celebration made its first steps towards international adoption, as it was borderless by design

In 2021, we upped the game. We introduced the Pride Universe of the Neurodiverse, a 3D virtual world with 11 activity rooms built by neurodivergent developers and designers. Pride Day was adopted in 6 countries and created the largest dancing area in VR and produced a 18 hour long program.

2022 brought rhythm, color, and community. A 24-hour global DJ marathon spun across time zones, filled with music by neurodivergent artists. Events were organized in 9 countries. It wasn’t just a party—it was a statement: we’re here, we’re thriving, and we sound amazing.

In 2023, we spotlighted thought leadership, with keynote speeches from powerful voices like Professor Nancy Doyle and Jessica McCabe. Neurodiversity was no longer a fringe conversation—it was on the main stage, and celebrated in 11 countries.

Then in 2024, we organized in 15 countries and something symbolic happened. We moved the official date of Neurodiversity Pride Day to June 16, to support our friends at Autistic Pride Day. This wasn’t just a calendar shift. It was a unifying gesture—one that says, we’re stronger when we stand together.

And now? 2025 marks our 8th year, with a full week of global events from June 10–17, culminating in the big celebration on June 16. From workshops to art shows, from quiet spaces for reflection to wild moments of unfiltered joy—we’re creating space for every kind of neurodivergent pride.
